I direct the Education Policy Program at the New America Foundation, a non-profit think tank in Washington, DC, where I write about education and occasionally other things for publications including the Chronicle of Higher Education, Washington Monthly, and The New Republic.
I'm a serial think tank person, having been a founding employee and Policy Director of Education Sector after stints at the Education Trust and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. In a previous life I worked for the governor and state Senate in Indiana.
I have a Master's of Public Administration from Ohio State, where I met my wife, and a B.A. in political science from SUNY - Binghamton. We live on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC with our daughter. I enjoy travel, art, exercise, reading, and flying trapeze.
